Pastor Appreciation, Seize the Night & Some Freebies!

“—I passed out candy and tracts tonight (I prayed about it and got confirmation to do it.). I had MANY Christians tell me I was wrong. One said, “You have 364 other days of the year to tell people about Jesus…not today.” 😮 ” my fellow writer Angela Tweeted me last year.

“Wow.” I said. “I guess I missed the scripture about a day we weren’t supposed to tell others about Jesus. Oh, wait—maybe that’s because there is no such scripture! 🙂

There are scriptures that say today is the day of salvation, though, and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard.

I won’t dance with the Devil, but I don’t hide from him either. When opportunity knocks with the chance to scare the hell out of someone on #Halloween I throw the door open, offer them a handful of candy, a smile, and the Gospel message of the love of Jesus and  how to escape Hell by the grace of God & make Heaven their home!

May I encourage you to seize the night as an opportunity to evangelize? I’ve created a new FREE downloadable tract for you to share on Halloween night, at your door, or door to door, at your church or wherever you choose. The PDF is a tri-fold design sized to fit on 8 1/2  x 11 inch paper and includes a space at the end for churches to add their name, address, service times and contact information. Below is the text of Seize the Night for you to preview. This tract is geared toward about age 10 to adult. I share this tract with the older children who show up at our door and with parents who accompany their little ones.

Seize the Night!

Do you know what’s scarier than Halloween?
What’s scarier than ghosts, goblins, witches,
and horror movies? Scarier than your worst
day ever, and even scarier than the recent
tragic headlines? It’s spending eternity
separated from the God who loves you.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God. Romans 3:23 (NKJV)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God
is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23 (NKJV)

Our best misses the mark, so Jesus, God in
human flesh, stepped down from Heaven, was
born and lived a sinless life among mankind,
and gave His life on the cross to pay the
penalty for our sin.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 (NKJV)

We don’t have to walk this walk on our own.
Jesus wants to help bear our burdens and
break the bondage of the vices that grip us.

Are you lonely, lost, or broken?
Jesus is the mind mender, the heart healer. He
brings hope to the hopeless and purpose to
pain.

Are you looking for peace in a world of wars?
Do you tire of falling behind despite trying to
keep up with the frenzied pace?

Peace is found in the Prince of Peace, Jesus.
He is the storm stiller
Casting all your care upon Him for He cares for
you. 1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)

Or maybe you’ve found that as much as you fill
up on all the good life has to offer, you still
come up empty. Are you missing meaning? Do
you wonder if there is more?

God is not interested in rote religious ritual or
prayers. There’s a big difference between
knowing about someone and knowing them.
God created us for a personal relationship with
Him. He offers new life. Regardless of past
wrongs, Jesus invites us to come as we are so
He can make us into all we were meant to be.
He is the designer of our destiny.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward
you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not
of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV)

Jesus was born to die so we could live. He rose
victorious over Hell, so we don’t have to go
there.

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly,
I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot
see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:3 (NKJV)

He shouldered our sin, conquered death, and
offers us salvation and eternal life with Heaven
as home.

Do you want this?

Salvation is there for the asking. If you’re
ready, you can pray like this:

“Jesus, I believe you shed your blood, died on
the cross, and rose from the dead to pay for my
sin. I repent of my sin. I ask you to forgive me
and come into my heart and be my Lord and
Savior. Thank you for saving me; please help
me to live for you. In Jesus’ name I pray,
amen.”

if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus
and believe in your heart that God has raised
Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 (NKJV)

It is important that you find a Bible believing
Bible preaching church home so you can
grow in your faith and have the friendship and
support of other believers.

In honor of  Pastor Appreciation Month my article, I call Him Pastor was published on Southern Ohio Christian Voice:

My pastor is not perfect; he’s just a man, as are all preachers. But he’s the man God provided to shepherd my soul. I believe as we care for those God has set over us, praying for and treating them with respect and appreciation, He empowers them to care for us. I have chosen to honor the ordained authority God has been kind enough to put over me. I’m not speaking of…

In my prior post, When Failing Wins, I told of being:

“Seated on my bedroom window sill of our 14th floor apartment, moonlight spilled across the pages as street lights twinkled below. It was from this elevated perch that I penned my first words, a poem.”

I thought it would be fun to share the second thing I wrote from my favored reading spot—a poem entitled Autumn. (More to come on that in November’s posts. 🙂 )

                     Autumn

Tis the time when the north wind doth blow

And the trees set the forest all aglow

The birds take flight

Southern bound

And the leaves come tumbling to the ground

Squirrels scurry to their nests

Storing nuts for winter’s long rest

The wind in the trees makes a wuthering sound

And autumn’s beauty does us surround

—Rachael M Colby (Age 10 years old)

*Some of my readers told me that they missed my award winning poem He is Risen in my prior post as they thought the article ended with the large waterfall picture. I’ve since reformatted the post. So if you haven’t yet, please click here and scroll below the big waterfall toward the end of my artilcle When Failing Wins to read He is Risen.
