A Heart for the Harvest ~ Pastor Ron & Kathie Banet, Missionaries to South Africa

It is my pleasure and honor to introduce via video, Pastor Ron and Kathie Banet, missionaries to South Africa.  In this interview they share:

  • Pastor Banet’s journey from U.S. Marine to missionary and how it prepared him to pastor.
  • Their conversion to Christianity
  • Insights on raising up disciples
  • Orchestrating ministries to train in skilled trades and to help the drug addicted
  • Life on the mission field
  • The local response to their daughter and son-in-law’s interracial marriage and race relations in South Africa
  • Navigating the pandemic as a church
  • Church planting and more

Pastor Banet and Kathie were sent out of The Potter’s House Church, Prescott Arizona in 2004. They pastor the Potter’s House Church in Eldorado Park, a suburb of Johannesburg near Soweto. The Potter’s House in Eldorado serves as a leadership and bible conference center for the region and has planted churches in South Africa and beyond.

The physical needs of people can become all-consuming and some well meaning Christian organizations get so caught up with the work of meeting physical needs that it overshadows or squelches the Gospel mandate to win souls.

Jesus warned:

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? (Mark 8:36 NKJV)

Others, seemingly for fear of losing priority of the state of souls, tend to the spiritual, but oppose and neglect responding to the physical needs of those they serve.

But the Bible admonishes both:

Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James 2:15-17)

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)

Thank you Pastor Banet and Kathie for faithfulness to fulfill scripture as you equip those you serve to provide for themselves and their families, while holding to the Jesus’ mandate of preaching the Gospel, winning souls to Jesus, making disciples, and planting churches.

“What has pastoring cost you?” I said

“Everything. My whole life.!” Pastor Banet said.

“Absolutely nothing.” Kathie said.

Both are true:

“And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.” Mark‬ ‭8:34-35‬ ‭NKJV

‭‭“I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.” I Corinthians‬ ‭15:31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

‭‭“Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.” ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians‬ ‭1:21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life.” Mark‬ ‭10:29-30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Thank you. ❤
